Jamaican dancehall star Popcaan has recovered his custom-made ring after launching a frantic appeal on social media for help locating the valuable piece of jewellery.
The entertainer, whose real name is Andre Sutherland, accidentally left the diamond-encrusted ring in the seat pocket of a British Airways flight from London Gatwick to Kingston, Jamaica.
The incident occurred on Monday after Flight BA2263 landed at Norman Manley International Airport.
Ring left in first-class seat pocket
Popcaan reportedly realized shortly after leaving the aircraft that the ring was missing. He remembered placing it inside the fabric pocket of his first-class seat, identified as 2D.
The musician immediately alerted airline personnel and requested that staff retrieve the item. However, he was initially informed that the ring could not be found.
Concerned that the jewellery might disappear permanently, Popcaan turned to X, formerly Twitter, and asked British Airways employees, security officials and aircraft cleaners to conduct another search.
He explained that the ring was unique and easily identifiable because “#unrulystate” was engraved on the inside.
Fans amplify Popcaan’s appeal
The request quickly gained attention, with thousands of fans sharing the post and tagging British Airways and other relevant accounts.
Members of Popcaan’s global fan base urged airline officials to investigate and return the jewellery, transforming the search into a widely followed social media campaign.
The strong online reaction prompted renewed attention to the missing item.
British Airways staff find missing jewellery
Following an additional search of the aircraft, British Airways crew members and cleaning personnel successfully located the ring.
Popcaan later posted a celebratory video confirming that the jewellery had been returned. Displaying it on his finger, he thanked the airline’s employees and his supporters for helping to recover it.
“Big up British Airways staff, you see? Nuff love for finding the ice on my finger,” he said.
The dancehall performer explained that the ring carried considerable personal and sentimental value because it represented the rewards of his career.
“Hard work give me that ring there,” he added.
The successful recovery brought a positive conclusion to the viral search and drew praise for the airline workers who helped locate and return the customized piece.
