The Adenta Circuit Court has granted GH¢100,000 bail to Salomey Awiti Baffoe, a 40-year-old senior nursing officer from Techiman accused of abetting the publication of false news linked to the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account.
The court’s decision on Monday, October 5, 2026, followed approximately three weeks in custody. Baffoe has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Under the bail conditions, she must provide two sureties who are civil servants earning at least GH¢3,000 each per month. She must also report to the Hensua Police Station every two weeks.
Her lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, urged the court to release her, citing the length of her detention. The prosecution, led by Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai, did not oppose the application.
Prosecutors allege that Baffoe acted as a liaison for UK-based TikTok personality Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, popularly known as Ghana Jollof, and assisted in producing and circulating videos police consider false and inciting.
She faces a charge of abetment of crime relating to the publication of false news under Sections 20(1) and 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The allegations remain before the court.
Baffoe was arrested at her residence in Hansua, near Techiman in the Bono East Region, on September 13. Her detention attracted public attention after reports that people identifying themselves as National Security operatives took her away late at night, leaving her family initially unable to establish her whereabouts.
Her legal team welcomed the bail ruling and began arrangements to meet the conditions for her release. Proceedings have been adjourned to February 17, 2027.
