Incarcerated music executive Sean “Diddy” Combs could leave federal custody earlier than initially expected after the Federal Bureau of Prisons updated his projected release date.
BOP records now indicate that Combs may be released in February 2028, several months earlier than the May 2028 date previously listed.
The projection remains subject to change depending on his conduct, eligibility for sentence-reduction programs and other decisions made by federal prison authorities.
Combs is serving his sentence at the low-security Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix in New Jersey. He received a 50-month federal prison term after being convicted on charges related to transportation to engage in prostitution.
His sentence includes credit for the time he spent in pretrial detention at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn following his arrest in September 2024.
Federal inmates who meet eligibility requirements can receive up to 54 days of good-conduct credit for every year of the sentence imposed. Such credits frequently result in adjustments to projected release dates.
Combs may also qualify for additional reductions through approved rehabilitation and recidivism-reduction programs.
These could include the Residential Drug Abuse Program and other activities recognized under the First Step Act. Any sentence reduction connected to these programs would depend on his eligibility and successful completion of their requirements.
Leaving Fort Dix will not end Combs’ obligations to federal authorities. He is expected to begin five years of supervised release after completing his prison sentence.
During that period, he could face reporting requirements, travel restrictions and continued monitoring to ensure compliance with the conditions imposed by the court.
Meanwhile, his legal team continues to challenge his conviction through the appeals process. The projected February 2028 release date does not affect those proceedings and is not a guarantee that he will leave custody on that date.
