Shatta Wale Responds to Fameye’s ‘Big 10’ Call, Says Fan Loyalty Sustains Success

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has challenged Fameye’s call for broader media attention beyond the country’s so-called “Big 3,” arguing that lasting influence in music depends on a strong relationship with fans.

Fameye, speaking on United Showbiz, questioned the continued emphasis on Shatta Wale, Sarkodie and Stonebwoy as the industry’s leading figures. He proposed widening the conversation to a “Big 10” to give more hardworking and talented artistes greater visibility.

Responding during a social media broadcast on October 8, 2026, Shatta Wale said he “laughed” when he heard the suggestion. He maintained that media exposure alone could not deliver the audience loyalty needed to remain at the top.

According to him, some musicians create distance between themselves and the public in an effort to maintain a superstar image. He argued that this approach can weaken the connection that helps sustain a career.

Shatta Wale attributed his continued relevance to remaining accessible and presenting himself as an ordinary Ghanaian. He said regular communication and direct interaction with supporters had helped him build a committed following.

He encouraged fellow musicians to develop similar relationships with their audiences, stressing that strong grassroots support could sustain an artiste beyond favorable coverage or industry recognition.

While Fameye’s proposal focused on expanding opportunities for media exposure, Shatta Wale’s response placed the emphasis on how artistes cultivate and retain their fan bases.

Their differing views add to the discussion about recognition in Ghana’s music industry and how more performers can build lasting careers alongside its established stars.
