Veteran Ghanaian musician SkrewFaze has encouraged emerging artists to develop an original sound and identity, warning that imitating established performers could limit their growth.
The musician, known for songs such as “Gbalagazaa,” advised young talents to “be in your lane and build your own identity” as they work to establish themselves in the industry.
He stressed that originality helps musicians distinguish themselves and gives audiences a reason to connect with their work. Trying to reproduce another artist’s sound or public image, he argued, risks overshadowing the qualities that could make a newcomer stand out.
SkrewFaze urged upcoming acts to invest time in discovering their musical strengths and developing a style that reflects their own experiences and creativity. He described that process as important to building a lasting career.
He also cautioned that borrowing another performer’s identity could eventually work against an artist, as listeners may remain more interested in the person who originated the sound.
His advice places authenticity at the center of career development, encouraging the next generation of Ghanaian musicians to build recognition through their own creative contribution.
