Ghanaian dancehall musician Stonebwoy has publicly challenged Sarkodie over comments the rapper made about principles, toxic fan behavior and rivalries within the music industry.
The exchange began after Sarkodie posted a message on X advising artistes against encouraging fans who attack rival musicians and their brands in an attempt to promote their favorites.
The rapper warned that some social media users deliberately provoke fan wars to generate engagement and gain online attention. He urged artistes to avoid validating such conduct, even when it appears to benefit their careers.
Stonebwoy responded with a lengthy message, questioning Sarkodie’s moral authority to offer the advice. He argued that a message about principles becomes less meaningful when the person delivering it does not consistently demonstrate those values.
According to Stonebwoy, the two musicians previously had an hour-long telephone conversation about principles and responsibility in the entertainment industry.
He claimed that Sarkodie told him during the private discussion that no artiste could be compelled to uphold a particular set of principles and that musicians often played along with situations for as long as those circumstances served their interests.
Stonebwoy said the position Sarkodie allegedly expressed during their private conversation appeared inconsistent with his subsequent public advice to other musicians.
“Without PRINCIPLE, advice is an OPINION,” Stonebwoy wrote, as he urged Sarkodie to demonstrate the standards he was recommending to others.
The dancehall musician also referred to videos Sarkodie posted after his concert at the OVO Arena Wembley. Stonebwoy said he interpreted the posts as cryptic messages directed at him.
He questioned why Sarkodie would post content that could be perceived as provocative while publicly advising artistes not to fuel rivalry or encourage toxic fan behavior.
Sarkodie subsequently denied that his posts were intended to attack or ridicule Stonebwoy. He maintained that he had no malicious intention and said he had reached out in good faith.
Stonebwoy later addressed Sarkodie’s response during a TikTok live session, reviewing the rapper’s explanation point by point.
He warned against extending the dispute and reiterated that anyone seeking to advise colleagues in the music industry must first demonstrate consistency in their own conduct.
The public exchange has generated widespread discussion among supporters of both musicians, with fans debating the role artistes play in encouraging or discouraging unhealthy rivalries.
While competition remains a major part of the entertainment industry, the disagreement has also renewed conversations about subliminal messages, fan wars and the responsibility of leading musicians to promote respectful engagement.
Stonebwoy maintained that his intervention was centered on accountability and principles, insisting that industry advice must be supported by the conduct of the person offering it.
