Ghanaian reggae-dancehall musician Stonebwoy has expressed sympathy to those affected by the crowd incident that led to the cancellation of ShattaFest UK 2026.
Setting aside his long-standing industry rivalry with Shatta Wale, the BHIM Nation president described the development as heartbreaking and damaging to the collective effort to promote Ghanaian music internationally.
Stonebwoy reacted to the incident in a post shared on his official X account on Sunday, August 2, 2026.
“This is definitely not the kind of news any event organizer, artist, fan or promoter of the Ghana music agenda wants to hear. Our hearts go out to all those affected,” he wrote.
His message attracted positive reactions from music fans and industry stakeholders, many of whom described it as a demonstration of maturity and professional solidarity.
Commentators said the statement showed that public safety and the welfare of fans should take precedence over competition or personal disagreements between artists.
ShattaFest UK 2026 was staged as part of the Ghana Party in the Park festivities at Copthall Playing Fields in North London on Saturday, August 1.
The UK Metropolitan Police halted the event following reports of severe congestion at the entrance, overcrowding and dangerous crowd surges.
Several attendees reportedly collapsed or sustained injuries during the confusion, although authorities had yet to release a comprehensive account of the incident.
The cancellation disappointed thousands of fans who had travelled to the venue to see Shatta Wale and other performers.
Stonebwoy’s response also reflected broader concerns about how safety failures at international events could affect the reputation and growth of Ghanaian music abroad.
The incident has renewed calls for event organizers to improve crowd-control systems, provide multiple access points and work closely with emergency services when staging large concerts.
Stonebwoy’s statement comes as he prepares for his own headline concert at London’s OVO Arena Wembley later in August.
