
Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor, filmmaker, and cleric Taiwo Adeshina, popularly known as Elegbeje Ado, has passed away at the age of 66 following a brief illness.
His death occurred on Monday, June 29, 2026, and has triggered widespread mourning across Nigeria’s entertainment industry, with colleagues, fans, and cultural figures paying tribute to his decades-long contribution to Yoruba cinema.
A Defining Figure in Yoruba Cinema
Taiwo Adeshina built a respected career spanning more than two decades in indigenous Yoruba filmmaking, where he became widely known for his commanding screen presence and deep command of the Yoruba language.
