Woman Allegedly Abandoned by Online Love Interest After Travelling from Mankessim to Ashanti Region

Mankessim was left completely stranded1

A young woman from Mankessim in the Central Region was reportedly left stranded in the Ashanti Region after an online acquaintance allegedly abandoned her upon meeting her in person for the first time.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, July 19, 2026, has attracted widespread attention on social media after videos showing the distressed woman being assisted by residents went viral.

Journey Inspired by Promises of Support

According to accounts circulating online, the woman, who lives with a physical disability, had developed a relationship with a man she met through social media.

She claimed the man promised to help her establish a new life in the Ashanti Region by enrolling her in a vocational apprenticeship, purchasing a sewing machine for her, and supporting her financially as she learned a trade.

Believing the promises, she travelled from Mankessim to Kunsu in the Ashanti Region to meet him.

Alleged Abandonment

The woman said she contacted the man after arriving at the agreed location, and he initially answered her call to confirm that she had arrived.

However, according to eyewitnesses and the woman’s account, the man allegedly saw her in person, realized she had a physical disability, and immediately left the area without speaking to her.

She further claimed that repeated attempts to contact him afterward were unsuccessful, as his phone was either switched off or he refused to answer her calls.

Left alone in an unfamiliar area without immediate assistance, the visibly distressed woman was later approached by residents, who offered her support.

Viral Videos Spark Debate

Videos of the incident quickly spread across social media, prompting mixed reactions from the public.

Some social media users argued that both parties should have been more transparent during their online interactions, suggesting that important personal information should be discussed before making significant travel arrangements.

Others strongly condemned the man’s alleged actions, describing them as insensitive and inhumane. Many argued that even if he had changed his mind after meeting her, he should have ensured she was safe and assisted her in returning home rather than abandoning her in an unfamiliar community.

Calls for Caution in Online Relationships

The incident has also renewed conversations about the risks associated with online relationships and meeting people for the first time.

Many users have advised people to verify the identities of individuals they meet online, maintain open communication, and avoid travelling long distances alone without informing relatives or trusted friends of their plans.

As the story continues to circulate online, many Ghanaians have praised the residents who came to the woman’s aid, saying their compassion helped ease what could have become an even more difficult situation.

The claims surrounding the incident have not been independently verified by authorities, and no official statement has been issued by the man at the center of the allegations.
