All four people diagnosed with Mpox in Ghana’s Oti Region have been successfully treated and fully recovered, the Ghana Health Service has announced.
No deaths were recorded among the confirmed cases reported during the first half of 2026.
The Oti Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Kofi Amo-Kodieh, disclosed the development during the Directorate’s 2026 Mid-Year Performance Review Meeting held at Worawora in the Biakoye District.
According to Dr. Amo-Kodieh, the patients received prompt treatment at designated health facilities, leading to their complete clinical recovery.
He attributed the successful containment of the disease to effective surveillance, the swift response of frontline health workers and the willingness of community members to report suspected cases early.
The Regional Health Directorate also investigated several suspected cases of Cerebrospinal Meningitis during the period under review. Laboratory tests conducted on the samples returned negative results.
Despite the encouraging outcomes, health authorities said surveillance would be intensified to ensure that potential cases of Mpox and other infectious diseases are detected and managed quickly.
The Directorate plans to expand community-based case-detection networks and public engagement campaigns, particularly in areas where access to healthcare remains difficult.
Additional vehicles, testing equipment and supervisory resources are also expected to be mobilized for remote riverine and island communities across the region.
Residents have been encouraged to report symptoms such as unusual skin rashes and fever to the nearest health facility. The public has also been advised to wash their hands regularly and avoid close physical contact with anyone showing symptoms associated with Mpox.
Health officials said sustained public education and cooperation between communities and medical personnel would be essential to preventing new infections and protecting residents across the Oti Region.
