Ghana Sends 61 Health Workers to Grenada Under Labour Export Programme

Ghana has deployed 61 health professionals to Grenada under its Labor Export Program to help address staffing shortages in the Caribbean country’s healthcare system.

The workers will serve in medical facilities under renewable two-year contracts, according to reports on the deployment announced on October 13, 2026. The initiative forms part of government efforts to expand overseas employment opportunities for Ghanaian professionals.

Addressing the group before departure, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah urged the workers to demonstrate integrity, discipline and professionalism throughout their assignments.

He stressed that their conduct would shape perceptions of Ghanaian professionals and could influence future employment opportunities for others. He encouraged them to deliver quality care and represent Ghana positively.

Minister of Labor, Jobs and Employment Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum also called on the workers to honor their contractual obligations and maintain high standards. He encouraged them to return to Ghana after completing their assignments.

Agyekum disclosed that preparations were progressing to send additional nurses to Germany and other Caribbean countries as the government broadens its international labor partnerships.

The Grenada deployment follows the departure of an initial group of 43 Ghanaian nurses to Jamaica on September 26. That bilateral arrangement is expected to accommodate about 400 nurses to support healthcare delivery in the country.

The Labor Export Program seeks to connect qualified Ghanaians with opportunities abroad while helping partner countries address shortages in essential sectors. Government officials emphasized that dependable service and compliance with employment agreements would be important to sustaining these partnerships.
