The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr Kingsley Agyemang, has settled the outstanding medical bills of inpatients at the Kyebi Government Hospital as part of a wider intervention to strengthen healthcare delivery in the constituency.
The initiative, undertaken on Friday, August 21, 2026, also included the presentation of essential medical equipment and consumables to the hospital.
Dr Agyemang, who serves on Parliament’s Health Committee, said the support was provided in response to urgent needs identified by the hospital’s management.
MP Settles Outstanding Inpatient Bills
Dr Agyemang paid the medical bills of patients receiving treatment at the facility, providing relief to individuals and families struggling to meet their financial obligations.
Among the beneficiaries was reportedly a premature baby born at 27 weeks who had remained on admission for several weeks.
The intervention was intended to remove immediate financial pressure on patients and enable the hospital to concentrate on delivering care.
No verified total for the number of beneficiaries or the value of the bills was immediately disclosed.
Hospital Receives Essential Medical Equipment
Alongside the payment of patients’ bills, the MP donated medical equipment and supplies to improve clinical services at the hospital.
The items included:
- Three suction machines
- Three electronic weighing scales with height-measuring functions
- Two pulse oximeters
- Ten blood pressure monitors
- Ten thermometers
- Three electronic patient monitors
- Twenty wheelchairs
- A cardiotocography machine
- Several boxes of examination gloves
The cardiotocography machine will support maternal care by helping health professionals monitor fetal heartbeats and uterine contractions during pregnancy and labor.
The other devices are expected to assist with patient monitoring, emergency care and general clinical work.
Intervention Responds to Hospital’s Immediate Needs
Dr Agyemang explained that the donation followed discussions with the hospital’s management about equipment shortages and other operational challenges.
He acknowledged the economic pressures facing both healthcare institutions and individual families but maintained that access to medical care must remain a priority.
The MP also encouraged health professionals at the hospital to continue treating patients with compassion, commitment and professionalism.
While promising continued support, he stressed that private donations could not replace sustained government investment in public healthcare facilities.
Proposed Specialist Centre for Abuakwa South
Dr Agyemang also announced that plans were under consideration to establish a specialist diagnostic facility in the constituency.
He said the proposed center would help residents access services closer to home instead of travelling long distances for diagnosis and treatment.
The initiative is also expected to include dialysis services in response to concerns about the growing number of people living with kidney-related conditions.
According to the MP, the project would be privately driven but designed to complement government investment in healthcare.
Abuakwa South Health Summit Planned
As part of the broader healthcare agenda, Dr Agyemang is expected to organize an Abuakwa South Health Summit.
The proposed event would bring together health professionals, hospital administrators, policymakers, traditional leaders, private-sector representatives and development partners.
Participants would assess challenges affecting healthcare delivery in the municipality and explore sustainable solutions extending beyond occasional donations.
The initiative is intended to create stronger partnerships for improving equipment, infrastructure, specialized care and healthcare financing within the constituency.
Hospital Management Welcomes Support
The Medical Superintendent of the Kyebi Government Hospital, Dr Isaac Antwi, expressed appreciation to the MP for assisting the facility and its patients.
He said the donated equipment would strengthen the hospital’s capacity to deliver healthcare to residents of Abuakwa South and people referred from surrounding communities.
Dr Antwi also appealed to individuals, businesses and development partners to support the hospital as it works to improve its services.
Supporting a Century-Old Health Facility
Kyebi Government Hospital marked its centenary in 2026 and remains an important referral facility in the Eastern Region.
During the launch of its 100th-anniversary celebrations, Dr Agyemang called for greater investment, innovation and accountability in Ghana’s healthcare system.
His latest intervention forms part of continuing efforts to address immediate needs at the hospital while encouraging longer-term planning for healthcare delivery across Abuakwa South.
