A devastating fire has claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy after engulfing a six-room residential building near the Suame Post Office in the Ashanti Region during the early hours of Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
The blaze, which broke out while residents were asleep, completely destroyed the house and reduced household property worth thousands of Ghana cedis to ashes.
Teenager Trapped Inside Burning House
The deceased has been identified as Alhasan Asan, who was also known locally as Hassan.
According to residents, the fire started at approximately 1:00 a.m., catching occupants off guard as they slept.
As flames rapidly spread through the building, the teenager became trapped inside one of the locked bedrooms. Neighbors and fellow occupants said they could hear him crying out for help, but the thick smoke and intense flames made it impossible to reach him.
Despite desperate efforts by residents to rescue him, Alhasan was unable to escape. His body was later recovered from the room, having been burnt beyond recognition.
Residents described the teenager as a respectful, quiet, and well-behaved young man whose death has left the community in deep mourning.
Fire Destroys Home and Belongings
Firefighters from the Breman Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to the emergency and eventually succeeded in bringing the blaze under control.
However, by the time the fire was extinguished, the six-room building had been completely destroyed, along with furniture, electrical appliances, clothing, and other personal belongings belonging to the occupants.
The extent of the damage has been estimated to run into thousands of Ghana cedis.
Residents Raise Concerns Over Emergency Response
Some eyewitnesses expressed frustration over the emergency response, alleging that the first fire tender dispatched to the scene arrived without an adequate supply of water.
Residents claimed the situation delayed efforts to contain the fire during its initial stages, allowing the flames to spread further through the building before additional assistance arrived.
The Ghana National Fire Service has not yet commented publicly on the allegations.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
Fire investigators have launched an inquiry to determine what sparked the blaze and whether any other factors contributed to the tragic incident.
Authorities are expected to release further details after completing their investigation as the community continues to mourn the loss of the young victim.
