26% increase in utility tariffs within 18 months

MPs

The Minority in Parliament has criticised the cumulative 26% increase in utility tariffs over the past 18 months under the NDC administration, describing the hikes as a betrayal of the trust reposed in the government by Ghanaians. Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Energy Committee, Collins Adomako Mensah, said the repeated tariff adjustments were placing an unbearable financial burden on households and businesses already grappling with rising living costs.

His comments follow the latest announcement by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), which approved new utility tariff adjustments effective July. Under the revised rates, electricity tariffs will increase by 3.49%, while water tariffs will rise by 0.85%.
