6,000 Join Ga Homowo Health Walk as Bills Micro Credit Provides GH¢350,000 Support

6,000 participants flooded the streets of Ga

More than 6,000 people reportedly participated in the 2026 Ga Homowo Health Walk at Ga Mashie on Saturday, August 1, as residents combined physical exercise with music, cultural performances and free medical screening.

The annual event, held as part of activities leading to the Ga Homowo Festival, attracted fitness enthusiasts, traditional groups, young people and residents from across the Ga State.

Participants assembled at Mantse Agbonaa before walking through major Ga communities and ending at Bannerman Road, where games, entertainment and performances by Ga musicians continued the celebration.

Bills Micro Credit Provides GH¢350,000 Package

Bills Micro Credit supported the event with a sponsorship package valued at GH¢350,000.

The package was presented to Team Okintinklan, the Homowo planning group responsible for organizing the walk. It included a cash contribution, 5,000 branded shirts, drinking water, assorted beverages and logistical assistance.

The presentation was made by the company’s Head of Operations, Kweku Baah, on behalf of Bills Micro Credit Chief Executive Officer Romeo-Richlove Kweku Elorm Seshie.

Company founder and outgoing CEO Richard Nii-Armah Quaye was also recognized for his role in establishing and sustaining Bills Micro Credit’s involvement in the annual program.

Walk Promotes Health and Ga Cultural Identity

The Health Walk has become one of the major community events on the Homowo calendar, bringing together physical wellness and the celebration of Ga heritage.

Organizers said the program was designed to encourage residents to exercise regularly, pay closer attention to their health and strengthen community bonds before the main festival celebrations.

Music and traditional jama performances accompanied participants throughout the event, creating a festive atmosphere around Mantse Agbonaa and along the walking route.

The reported turnout of more than 6,000 participants represented one of the event’s strongest attendances since its establishment.

Participants Receive Free Health Screening

Free medical screening formed an important part of the program, allowing participants and residents to check basic health indicators before the walk.

The outreach was intended to help people identify potential medical concerns early and seek further treatment where necessary.

Traditional leader Nuumo Nikoi Amasah II, Klan Wulomo and Vice-President of the Ga Adangbe Wulomei Council, said the event offered residents an opportunity to remain physically active while celebrating Ga culture.

He also encouraged other companies to support programs that combine public health, cultural preservation and community development.

Three Years of Corporate Support

Bills Micro Credit’s involvement in the Homowo Health Walk began in 2024, making 2026 the third consecutive year the company has supported the program.

Baah said the partnership reflected the institution’s belief that healthy individuals and stable communities are essential to sustainable economic development.

He explained that the company’s work extends beyond providing credit to include financing ambition, expanding economic opportunities and helping Ghanaian families and businesses pursue long-term growth.

The company believes investments in public health can indirectly strengthen household productivity and improve the ability of entrepreneurs to operate successful businesses.

The 2026 sponsorship package and planned activities were announced before the event by the organizers and Bills Micro Credit.

With its combination of exercise, health education, entertainment and traditional identity, the Ga Homowo Health Walk continues to grow as an important opening event for the annual festival.
