64 Arrested as Police Recover Firearms and Ammunition in Achimota Lounge Raid

Ghanaian authorities have arrested 64 suspects and seized a major cache of weapons

Accra, Ghana — Ghanaian police have arrested 64 suspects and recovered several firearms and rounds of ammunition following a dawn operation at a lounge near Achimota Mile 7 in the Greater Accra Region.

The operation, conducted on September 25, 2026, was carried out by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police (SOA) in collaboration with the National SWAT team. Police said the operation followed complaints from residents about suspected criminal activities around the lounge, including the alleged open display and trading of firearms.

64 suspects arrested

During the operation, police arrested 64 people at the lounge over suspected unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

Officers also impounded a blue, unregistered Acura vehicle after discovering a pistol holster inside. Police said no one at the scene claimed ownership of the holster, and the vehicle was subsequently taken to Police Headquarters for further investigation.

Suspect allegedly posed as police officer

Among those arrested was Theophilus Ashon, who police said presented himself as a detective attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Operations.

According to the police, background checks established that Ashon was not a police officer. A subsequent search allegedly resulted in the recovery of a Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with six rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Further search uncovers weapons in Atico

Police investigations following the lounge operation led officers to a residence in Atico, where another suspect, Michael Emmanuel Kingsley Mills, was arrested.

A search of the residence reportedly resulted in the recovery of additional firearms and ammunition, including three pump-action guns and four pistols. Police also recovered 62 AA and BB cartridges and 54 rounds of .40-calibre ammunition.

Items recovered

According to police accounts reported by Graphic Online and 3News, the items recovered during the operation and subsequent investigations included:

  • Three pump-action guns
  • Four pistols recovered from the Atico residence
  • One Smith & Wesson pistol allegedly recovered from Theophilus Ashon
  • 62 AA and BB cartridges
  • 54 rounds of .40-calibre ammunition
  • Six rounds of 9mm ammunition
  • One unregistered blue Acura vehicle

The 64 suspects remain in police custody and are assisting with investigations. Police said the suspects will be put before the court as the case progresses.

The operation comes amid continued intelligence-led efforts by the Ghana Police Service to disrupt suspected criminal networks and recover illegally held firearms and ammunition.
