New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe Abronye, has denied making recent comments about the party’s focus on GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi.
His denial follows the circulation of a video on social media in which he is heard questioning why some members of the NPP were focusing on Mr Gyamfi instead of electoral issues.
In a statement issued on Sunday, August 23, Abronye said the video was old and was being circulated to make it appear that he had recently commented on national issues.
He said he has not publicly spoken on any national issue for the past three to four months.
“Over the last three to four months, I have not in any way expressed my views on any national issue in the country,” he said.
The video is being circulated at a time when Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Sammy Gyamfi are involved in a public disagreement over claims of losses at GoldBod.
In the video, Abronye questions why members of his party are directing their attention towards Sammy Gyamfi, who does not contest elections, instead of concentrating on electoral matters.
However, Abronye has asked the public to ignore the video and not link him to current political discussions.
“I hereby call on the Ghanaian public to disregard those videos linking me to current national issues,” he said.
Abronye explained that he has stayed away from public commentary in recent months following his arrest, which he described as unlawful.
“I am still reflecting and recovering from my unlawful arrest, which makes it the fourth time I have been arrested by this government for expressing my democratic opinion,” he stated.
He, however, said he will soon return to public commentary.
Abronye promised his supporters that his return would come with renewed energy and a stronger voice on national issues, despite the possibility of facing further arrests.
“I do promise my cherished viewers and listeners that I will be resuming soon with more fire than before, even if it comes with more arrests than before,” he said.
