Accra High Court Confirms Akofena as Successor to Kantanka Empire Following Will Reading

Israel Kwadwo Safo Jnr

The Accra High Court has officially confirmed Israel Kwadwo Safo Jnr., popularly known as Akofena, as the successor to the Kantanka Empire following the formal reading of the final will of the late Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.

The decision, announced on Monday, July 6, 2026, brings clarity to a closely watched leadership dispute that had generated significant public interest and differing views within the family and the Kristo Asafo Mission.

Will Confirms Leadership Succession

During the court proceedings, the late founder’s will was formally presented, with the document indicating that the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana and responsibilities relating to his estate are to be assumed by Akofena.

The ruling provides legal direction regarding the succession process and is expected to guide the administration of the church and its associated institutions.

Court Decision Brings Clarity

The High Court’s confirmation follows weeks of uncertainty and legal proceedings surrounding the leadership of the Kantanka Empire.

The outcome addresses questions that had emerged after differing interpretations of the late Apostle’s wishes and legal challenges concerning the succession process.

Sarah Adwoa Safo’s Earlier Position

The court’s decision is consistent with recent remarks by Sarah Adwoa Safo, former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya and daughter of the late Apostle.

She had previously maintained that her father left behind a valid will and urged that its provisions should be respected in determining the future leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the administration of his estate.

Family and Associates Express Support

Following the reading of the will, several family members and close associates publicly expressed their support for Akofena’s appointment.

Among them was Osebo the Zaraman, who stated that the late Apostle’s documented wishes should be respected and implemented in accordance with the law.

Focus Shifts to Next Steps

With the succession process now receiving legal confirmation through the reading of the will, attention is expected to turn toward the continued administration of the Kristo Asafo Mission and preparations for activities honoring the legacy of the late Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.

The High Court’s decision marks a significant milestone in the transition of leadership for one of Ghana’s most prominent religious and industrial institutions.
