Ghana will host the 10th Triennial World Assemblies of God Congress in Accra from October 14 to 16, 2026, with organizers expecting the gathering to promote spiritual renewal and generate business for the local economy.
Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, said approximately 10,000 delegates, alongside other visitors, were expected. He described the congress as the first to be hosted on African soil and an opportunity to strengthen Ghana’s international profile.
Under the theme “Commissioned: One Mandate, Every Nation,” participants will discuss evangelism and the fellowship’s ambition to plant at least one million churches worldwide by 2033. Rev. Wengam said prayers for Ghana and communities affected by conflict and social hardship would also feature prominently.
Daytime sessions are scheduled for Black Star Square from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with temporary facilities being prepared for the anticipated attendance. Evening revival rallies will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium and will be free and open to all denominations.
President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama are scheduled to attend the opening ceremony on October 14. Expected church leaders include Rev. Dominic Yeo, Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship.
Rev. Wengam said spending by visitors could benefit hotels, transport operators, food vendors and traders.
Preparations involve several public institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana Armed Forces, Police Service, Immigration Service, National Security and health and emergency agencies.
Local Organizing Committee Chairman Rev. Andrews Nelson Awintia said the committee was working to ensure a successful congress, while Rev. Wengam urged volunteers and participating institutions to help provide a positive experience for visiting delegates.
