Aduana FC has formally apologized to Karela United after supporters attacked the visiting team’s bus following their Ghana Premier League match at Nana Agyemang Badu I Park in Dormaa Ahenkro.
The incident occurred on Sunday, September 20, 2026, after Aduana secured a dramatic 2-1 victory with a winning goal in the 98th minute of the Matchday Three encounter.
Reports indicate that some home supporters entered a restricted safe zone and threw objects at the Karela United bus while members of the visiting delegation were inside. The attack damaged the windscreen and side windows of the vehicle.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 21, Aduana FC accepted responsibility for the security failure and condemned the destruction of Karela United’s property.
The club alleged that tensions began after Karela United assistant coach Ayuba Abdul Kadir assaulted a stadium security officer in the presence of match officials.
However, Aduana made it clear that the alleged incident did not justify the subsequent conduct of its supporters.
“Nothing that happened earlier justifies damage to the property of another club,” the club stated.
Aduana FC expressed regret over the incident and assured Karela United, football authorities and supporters that steps would be taken to prevent a recurrence.
The reported breach has renewed concerns about hooliganism and inadequate security at some Ghana Premier League venues.
The Ghana Football Association is expected to assess the match commissioner’s report and other available evidence before deciding whether disciplinary action should be taken.
Possible sanctions for serious security breaches may include fines, the closure of a home venue or an order requiring affected matches to be played behind closed doors or at a neutral ground.
