Ghanaian entrepreneur Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu has launched a container housing initiative offering residential units at prices starting from GH¢75,000.
The project, introduced through Afro-Arab Properties, provides prefabricated homes with flexible, interest-free payment arrangements for individuals and families seeking alternatives to conventional buildings.
It is being promoted under the company’s “Everyone Can Buy a House” campaign, which aims to reduce some of the financial barriers preventing Ghanaians from owning homes.
The available designs reportedly range from one-bedroom units to larger two-, three- and four-bedroom configurations. Prices begin at GH¢75,000, although the company has not publicly released a complete price list for all layouts and specifications.
The final cost of a unit is expected to depend on factors such as its size, design, internal fittings, finishes and installation requirements.
Buyers Can Pay Gradually Towards Deposit
Under the proposed financing arrangement, prospective buyers who cannot immediately raise the full deposit may make gradual instalment payments until they reach 50 per cent of the agreed purchase price.
Once the customer has paid the required 50 per cent, Afro-Arab Properties will deliver and install the container home.
The remaining half of the purchase price can then be paid over a period of up to 24 months without interest. Customers with the financial capacity to settle the entire amount may also pay outright.
The arrangement is intended to give buyers time to mobilize funds without incurring the high interest costs commonly associated with mortgages and other property-financing products.
The company’s website also promotes interest-free payment plans as part of its broader approach to housing development. Afro-Arab Properties
Modular Homes as an Alternative
Container and prefabricated homes are increasingly being considered as alternatives to conventional block-and-cement construction.
Their components can be manufactured or modified away from the final building site before being transported and installed. This approach can shorten construction time and offer greater predictability over material and labor costs.
The homes may also be designed to include bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, living spaces, electrical installations and plumbing systems.
However, the specifications included in the GH¢75,000 starting price have not been fully detailed publicly. Prospective buyers would need to confirm whether the amount covers transportation, site preparation, foundations, installation, electrical work, plumbing, furnishings and utility connections.
Buyers would also ordinarily need access to suitable land with the appropriate documentation and planning approval before installation.
Electric Vehicle Package Announced
Afro-Arab Properties has also indicated that some customers may qualify for an electric vehicle package when purchasing a container home.
The company has not publicly explained all the conditions attached to the offer. It remains unclear whether qualifying vehicles will be provided at no additional cost, financed separately or reserved for buyers selecting particular housing packages.
Customers interested in the promotion should therefore request written information on eligibility, pricing, ownership terms, registration, insurance and any repayment obligations before making a financial commitment.
The housing offer follows the Afro-Arab Group’s involvement in electric mobility projects, including the introduction of electric vehicles under work-and-pay arrangements.
In 2025, the company also announced an interest-free housing promotion involving electric vehicles for qualifying buyers.
Responding to Ghana’s Housing Challenges
The initiative comes at a time when rising land, cement, steel and labor costs continue to place conventional homeownership beyond the reach of many households.
For workers without access to affordable mortgages, completing a traditional building can take several years. Construction may also stall when material prices increase before homeowners can mobilize additional funds.
Modular housing could provide an alternative for buyers seeking quicker construction and more manageable payment arrangements.
Afro-Arab Properties said the project forms part of its efforts to contribute to reducing Ghana’s housing deficit while expanding access to homeownership among low- and middle-income earners.
Salamu Amadu is the founder and board chairman of the Afro-Arab Group of Companies, a Ghanaian-owned conglomerate with interests in real estate, construction, finance, transportation, travel and social development.
The group has recently positioned housing and electric mobility as key parts of its expansion strategy.
Buyers Urged to Verify Full Terms
While the GH¢75,000 starting price and zero-interest payment structure may attract prospective homeowners, buyers should confirm the complete terms before entering an agreement.
Important matters to establish include the exact dimensions of the unit, materials used, insulation, ventilation, fire safety, warranty protection and maintenance responsibilities.
Customers should also determine whether the quoted price includes delivery to every part of Ghana or whether transportation charges vary according to location.
Other considerations include the expected lifespan of the structure, resistance to corrosion, installation timelines and the availability of after-sales support.
Buyers should request a written contract specifying the payment schedule, delivery conditions, refund policy and what happens if either party fails to meet its obligations.
The container housing initiative reflects a growing attempt by Ghanaian developers to combine alternative construction methods with flexible financing.
If implemented according to the announced terms, the program could offer another route to homeownership for households that struggle to meet the upfront cost of conventional property purchases.
