The President of the Accra Institute of Technology, Professor Clement K. Dzidonu, has urged individuals to take greater responsibility for their continuing education as artificial intelligence reshapes professional demands.
He advocated a “Sovereign Lifelong Learner” mindset, which he calls the “Sovereign Triple-L”, placing personal responsibility at the center of developing and updating skills throughout life.
Professor Dzidonu argued that graduation should begin a new phase of learning, warning that relying indefinitely on knowledge acquired during formal education was becoming increasingly unsustainable.
In remarks reported on October 5, 2026, he described skills, expertise, experience, knowledge and know-how collectively as “SEEK”. He said technological change was widening the gap between people’s existing capabilities and those needed to remain effective in their professions.
Addressing this “SEEK-Gap”, he explained, requires people to regularly assess their abilities and develop practical competence in problem-solving, adaptation and innovation.
Professor Dzidonu also encouraged responsible engagement with AI. He stressed that using the technology should strengthen human thinking and creativity while preserving independent judgement. Learners, he said, should question and challenge AI rather than accept its output unquestioningly.
His approach also includes the Opportunity–Possibility–Difference perspective, which encourages people to recognise opportunities within disruption, explore the capabilities they could develop and apply them to create value.
He said the message extends beyond graduates to professionals, entrepreneurs, educators and institutions seeking to remain relevant.
“The future will increasingly belong to those who remain capable of learning what tomorrow requires,” Professor Dzidonu said.
