Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Hon. Adwoa Safo, is reportedly receiving medical treatment after gunmen allegedly attacked her vehicle near the residence of her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena.
The incident is said to have occurred on Sunday at the home of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, where he was reportedly meeting supporters as part of efforts to have him installed as the successor to his late father, Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo.
According to sources, officers from the Dome District Police Command were alerted to the situation and swiftly deployed to the area as tensions escalated.
Eyewitness accounts claim that Hon. Adwoa Safo was in the vicinity when armed men allegedly opened fire on her vehicle. The assailants are said to have discharged several rounds of ammunition, with reports indicating that one bullet grazed the former legislator near her neck.
She was subsequently rushed to a medical facility for treatment and is said to be in stable condition.
The alleged shooting comes against the backdrop of growing disagreements within the Kristo Asafo family over the succession of the late Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo. The leadership transition has reportedly sparked legal challenges, with some family members contesting attempts to install Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena as the next head of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
As of the time of this report, the Ghana Police Service had not issued an official statement on the matter. Investigations are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
