Ambulance Triggers Multi-Vehicle Collision at Tech Junction in Kumasi

Ambulance crash involving

A multi-vehicle accident involving an ambulance caused heavy traffic congestion at the Tech Junction–Top High intersection in the Oforikrom Municipality of Kumasi on Sunday morning, August 9, 2026.

The collision occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m. along the busy Ejisu stretch, disrupting traffic during the morning peak period.

According to reports, an ambulance with registration number GV 554-24 was transporting a patient in critical condition and approaching the intersection with its siren sounding.

Vehicles had stopped at a red traffic light when the ambulance attempted to move between the stationary lanes. However, the space available was reportedly too narrow for it to pass safely.

The ambulance subsequently struck two cars, forcing them into two other vehicles positioned ahead. Four vehicles were damaged in the resulting chain-reaction collision.

The incident worsened an already congested traffic situation, leaving motorists stranded as the affected vehicles occupied part of the roadway.

Some drivers involved in the crash expressed frustration over the incident. They acknowledged the urgency of the ambulance’s mission but said the gridlock had left them with no room to move aside or create a safe passage.

No casualties involving the affected motorists were immediately reported, while the condition of the patient being transported was not disclosed.

The accident highlights the difficulties emergency vehicles face when travelling through heavily congested urban roads, particularly at intersections where motorists have limited space to respond to sirens.
