Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has assured Eberechi Eze that opportunities will come, while stressing that the England international must earn his place through performances in training and matches.
Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League meeting with Lille, Arteta praised Eze’s attitude and expressed confidence that he would play a bigger role as the season progresses.
The midfielder has started two of Arsenal’s opening seven matches of the campaign, prompting questions about his position in the squad.
Arteta said selection depends on players demonstrating that they can deliver the impact the team needs. He also acknowledged that Eze’s teammates must learn to make better use of his strengths.
“His attitude is phenomenal and our players have to adapt as well to his qualities,” Arteta said.
The manager’s comments offered encouragement without guaranteeing an immediate starting place, with competition for selection remaining a central part of his approach.
Eze will be hoping to feature when Arsenal host Lille at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, October 13. Kick-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. British Summer Time, equivalent to 7 p.m. in Ghana.
