The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly has sought to reassure the public about the safety of the Villaggio construction site near the Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout in Accra after footage showing falling blocks and debris circulated on social media.
Municipal Chief Executive Dr Michael Mensah said the incident did not indicate structural failure and urged residents, business owners and commuters to remain calm.
According to the assembly and workers at the site, the debris came from an upper section where construction was ongoing. They described it as an isolated incident rather than evidence that the building was at risk of collapse.
Heavy equipment was deployed to manage the scene, while safety teams temporarily cordoned off the immediate perimeter to protect pedestrians and motorists from loose materials.
Dr Mensah said the situation was under control and assured the public that normal activities could continue in the surrounding area.
The assembly’s response followed concerns raised by the widely shared video, which showed materials falling from the new development. Authorities maintained that the incident did not compromise the building’s structural stability.
