
The management of the Ghana national football team (Black Stars) has officially recognized the Rhode Island Sheriff’s Department and the Providence Security Team for their outstanding support and protection during the team’s 2026 FIFA World Cup group-stage base camp in the United States.
In a formal appreciation ceremony before departing their training base, the Black Stars players and management presented customized national team jerseys to the security personnel as a gesture of gratitude for their professionalism, dedication, and hospitality throughout the team’s stay.
Appreciation Ceremony Marks End of New England Camp
The presentation brought to a close Ghana’s three-week stay in the New England region, where the team established its operational base for the World Cup group stage.
The Black Stars acknowledged the crucial role played by local security agencies in ensuring a safe and well-organized environment throughout their preparations.
Camp Logistics and Training Setup
Ghana’s base camp was strategically located across multiple facilities in Rhode Island and surrounding areas:
- Arrival: The delegation arrived in Rhode Island on June 11, following preparatory training camps in Cardiff and Virginia.
- Accommodation: The team was housed at the Providence by Hilton Hotel, which served as its residential headquarters.
- Training Ground: Tactical and technical sessions were conducted at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
- Community Engagement: Head coach Carlos Queiroz and his squad maintained close engagement with the local Ghanaian community in New England, with Queiroz describing the region as a “home away from home.”
Competitive Group Stage Campaign
While based in New England, Ghana navigated a challenging Group L campaign that saw them secure qualification for the knockout stage of the tournament.
Their group-stage fixtures included:
- Panama: Played in Toronto in a key early match that helped establish momentum.
- England: A high-profile clash staged within the regional hosting framework.
- Croatia: A decisive final group match that determined Ghana’s progression to the Round of 32.
Despite strong competition, the Black Stars managed to advance, booking their place in the knockout rounds.
Departure and Next Challenge
The team officially checked out of their Providence base on Wednesday, July 1, as they began travel arrangements for the next stage of the tournament.
Ghana is now heading to Missouri to prepare for a crucial Round of 32 knockout match against Colombia.
The single-elimination fixture is scheduled for Friday, July 3 at Kansas City Stadium, where the Black Stars will aim to continue their World Cup campaign beyond the group stage.
