The Bole District Police Command in the Savannah Region has arrested two suspects following the interception of a large quantity of suspected cannabis, while rejecting an alleged GH¢300,000 bribe offered in an attempt to halt investigations.
The police operation, conducted during a routine highway checkpoint exercise, has been praised as an example of professionalism and integrity within the Ghana Police Service.
Suspected Cannabis Seized on Bole-Wa Route
The incident occurred along the Banda Nkwanta–Teslima road, where officers were conducting a routine stop-and-search operation.
During the exercise, police intercepted a commercial transit vehicle with registration number AS 4874-25, which was traveling from Techiman to Wa.
A search of the vehicle was conducted after officers noticed inconsistencies with some of the luggage on board. The inspection led to the discovery of 73 parcels of compressed plant material suspected to be cannabis concealed inside bags.
Driver and Passenger Arrested
The police arrested the driver of the vehicle along with a woman in her early 40s who allegedly claimed ownership of the luggage containing the suspected narcotics.
According to police sources, the suspects attempted to avoid arrest and stop the investigation by allegedly offering the officers a cash bribe of GH¢300,000.
The operational team reportedly rejected the offer and proceeded with the arrest, processing the suspects before detaining them at the Bole Police Station.
The officers’ refusal to accept the alleged bribe has received commendation from members of the Ghana Police Service and the public.
Investigation Links Suspected Drugs to Possible Supply Network
During preliminary questioning, the female suspect reportedly told investigators that she had been contracted to transport the suspected narcotics to Sengye, a community near Bole.
Detectives are currently investigating intelligence suggesting that the destination may be connected to supply networks serving illegal mining (galamsey) operations within the area.
The police are working to establish the full extent of the suspected operation and identify any additional individuals who may be involved.
Suspected Cannabis Sent for Forensic Examination
The two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
The seized 73 parcels are being prepared for submission to a forensic laboratory, where authorities will conduct tests to confirm the exact nature of the substance.
Once the analysis is completed, police are expected to proceed with formal charges and present the suspects before the appropriate court.
