Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi has reportedly completed his medical examination with Coventry City as he moves closer to joining the newly promoted Premier League club from FC Nordsjælland.
The 20-year-old is understood to be completing the remaining contractual formalities before the transfer is officially announced.
Coventry have reportedly agreed to pay an initial €27 million for Yirenkyi, with another €3 million available through performance-related add-ons. The total package could therefore reach €30 million, equivalent to approximately £26 million.
If completed under the reported terms, the move would become the most expensive outgoing transfer in Danish football history. It would also establish a new transfer record for Coventry as manager Frank Lampard strengthens his squad for the 2026/27 Premier League season.
Yirenkyi has reportedly agreed to a long-term contract running until June 2031. He is also said to have completed media interviews and promotional photography ahead of Coventry’s official announcement.
The Ghanaian’s reputation rose significantly during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he delivered several impressive performances for the Black Stars.
His most memorable contribution came against Panama when he scored a dramatic 95th-minute winner to give Ghana a 1-0 victory. The goal, created by Brandon Thomas-Asante, became Ghana’s latest match-winning strike in World Cup history.
Yirenkyi will reunite with Thomas-Asante at Coventry if the transfer is completed. Their existing understanding at the international level could help the midfielder settle into his new surroundings.
A product of Ghana’s Right to Dream Academy, Yirenkyi moved to FC Nordsjælland in 2024 and quickly progressed into the Danish club’s first team. His energetic performances and versatility helped establish him as one of the Superliga’s leading young players.
Although primarily a central midfielder, he has also demonstrated the ability to play in defensive roles. His pressing, ball-winning ability and willingness to drive forward have made him an attractive prospect for Coventry.
The Sky Blues have been active in the transfer market as Lampard prepares the team for its return to the English top flight. Yirenkyi’s expected arrival would underline the club’s ambition to build a squad capable of competing in the Premier League.
Until Coventry and FC Nordsjælland issue formal statements, the transfer remains subject to the completion of contracts and registration procedures. According to reported, Coventry had agreed to approximately £23 million initial fee, while FIFA documented Yirenkyi’s decisive World Cup goal against Panama.
