The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Dr Kwamena Minta Nyarku, has provided financial assistance to 200 students entering senior high school under his 2026 EduSupport programme.
Each beneficiary received GH¢500, bringing the total amount distributed to GH¢100,000. The support is intended to reduce the financial pressure on parents and guardians preparing their children for life in senior high school.
The presentation ceremony was held at the GNAT Hall, popularly known as Bonkus, in Cape Coast on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
Dr Nyarku explained that although many parents had already bought mattresses, chop boxes and other requirements, the cash grants would help them purchase books and meet additional school-related expenses.
The annual initiative has expanded steadily since its introduction. It initially supported 100 students before the number increased to 180 in 2025 and 200 in the latest exercise.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the MP urged them to remain committed to their education and justify the investments being made in their future.
He advised the students to obey school rules, study diligently and avoid friendships that could negatively affect their academic progress.
“Please be careful of bad company and resist the temptation of peer pressure. Focus on your studies and make all of us proud,” he said.
Dr Nyarku also expressed concern about increasing drug abuse among young people and cautioned the students against experimenting with harmful substances.
He further raised concerns about teenage pregnancy and HIV, particularly within Cape Coast and the wider Central Region. He encouraged the students to avoid risky behaviour that could disrupt their education or damage their health.
The MP commended parents and guardians for their sacrifices and urged them to continue monitoring, counselling and supporting their children throughout their time in school.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the financial assistance and said the grants would help their families purchase essential items before they reported to their respective schools.
The EduSupport programme forms part of Dr Nyarku’s broader efforts to improve access to education and reduce the financial difficulties confronting families in the Cape Coast North Constituency.
