The Judicial Service has clarified that the recent trip to Canada by the Chief Justice was a private visit undertaken at her own expense and did not involve any public funds.

In a statement issued to address growing public discussion surrounding the trip, the Judicial Service emphasized that the Chief Justice traveled in her personal capacity and not on an official assignment. It stressed that all costs associated with the visit, including travel and accommodation, were personally financed by the Chief Justice.

According to the Service, the clarification became necessary following reports and commentary suggesting that the journey may have been funded by the state or connected to official judicial business. The statement firmly rejected such claims, describing them as inaccurate and misleading.

“The Chief Justice’s visit to Canada was strictly private and self-funded,” the Judicial Service stated, adding that no resources from the Judicial Service or the Government of Ghana were used to facilitate the trip.

The Service further noted that public office holders are entitled to undertake personal travel provided such activities do not interfere with their official responsibilities. It maintained that the Chief Justice remains committed to the effective administration of justice and the discharge of her constitutional duties.

The clarification comes amid heightened public scrutiny of public officials and increasing demands for transparency regarding the use of state resources. The Judicial Service reiterated its commitment to accountability and openness, urging the public to rely on verified information when discussing matters relating to the judiciary.

Observers say the statement is intended to dispel speculation and protect public confidence in the independence and integrity of the judiciary. The Judicial Service indicated that it would continue to provide factual information whenever necessary to correct misconceptions and ensure accurate public understanding of its activities.

The Chief Justice’s office has not announced any further comments on the matter, with the Judicial Service maintaining that the trip was a personal engagement and not connected to any official judicial assignment.
