An Accra Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of New Patriotic Party communicator Kweku Osei Korankye Asiedu, popularly known as KOKA, after he failed to appear before the court.
Asiedu, who is also a marketer, is facing charges of threat of death and publication of false news over separate statements he allegedly made concerning personnel and activities of the Economic and Organized Crime Office.
The prosecution told the court that the accused had been duly served with the necessary legal documents but failed to attend the proceedings. His absence was described as a disregard for the judicial process.
Following an application from the prosecution, the presiding judge granted the bench warrant to compel Asiedu’s arrest and appearance before the court to answer the charges against him.
According to the prosecution’s case, Asiedu allegedly recorded and circulated a video on May 29, 2026, in which he threatened the lives of EOCO officers.
He is alleged to have stated in the recording that the residences of some of the officers were known and that they would be killed. Prosecutors contend that the comments constituted a threat of death and created fear among the personnel concerned.
The second allegation relates to a statement Asiedu reportedly made on July 13, 2026, concerning Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an official of the NPP who was reportedly in EOCO custody at the time.
Asiedu allegedly claimed that the Presidency had instructed EOCO officials to deny Aboagye food while he was being held. The prosecution maintains that the assertion was false and intended to generate public anger against EOCO and the government.
Prosecutors further linked the alleged publication to a subsequent security incident involving the driver of EOCO’s Executive Director. According to the prosecution, about 20 unidentified men riding motorbikes pursued the driver following the circulation of the claim.
The prosecution argues that the alleged statement had the potential to incite members of the public and place EOCO personnel and their associates at risk.
The court has not yet determined Asiedu’s guilt or innocence, and the allegations against him remain unproven. He will be entitled to respond to the charges and present a defense when brought before the court.
The case has been adjourned to August 25, 2026. Police are expected to execute the warrant and present Asiedu before the court for the proceedings to continue.
