President John Dramani Mahama has called on residents who are yet to participate in the ongoing National Clean-Up Exercise to join the campaign, stressing that sustained public involvement is critical to restoring flood-affected communities and preventing future flooding.
Speaking at Alajo on the second day of the exercise, President Mahama commended residents who took part in Friday’s clean-up activities, describing their participation as a demonstration of collective responsibility in improving sanitation and protecting communities.
The President emphasised that the exercise should not end with clearing refuse from drains and public spaces. He said all waste collected during the campaign must be promptly evacuated and properly disposed of to prevent it from being washed back into drains and waterways during subsequent rainfall.
According to President Mahama, the scale of the clean-up operation requires continued action beyond the two-day exercise. He announced that the Ghana Armed Forces, working alongside other state agencies, would continue supporting the removal and disposal of waste from flood-affected communities until the exercise is completed.
He urged residents across the country to actively participate in the initiative, noting that protecting lives, restoring affected communities and reducing the risk of future floods are responsibilities that require the collective efforts of government, local authorities and citizens.
The National Clean-Up Exercise forms part of the government’s broader response to the recent floods and is aimed at improving environmental sanitation, restoring affected communities and strengthening flood prevention measures across the country.
