Democracy in Progress, a non-partisan civic platform in Ghana, has announced plans to hold a peaceful demonstration in Accra on Friday, October 2, 2026.
Dubbed the “Citizens’ Accountability March,” the event seeks to promote constitutional accountability, respect for due process and the responsible exercise of power by state institutions.
The demonstration will be held under the theme, “Democracy at Work: Accountability Is Not Persecution.”
According to the organisers, the march was prompted by growing public narratives portraying lawful anti-corruption investigations, prosecutions and convictions involving politically exposed persons as evidence of democratic persecution.
The platform maintains that holding public officials accountable through established legal procedures does not weaken democracy. Instead, it strengthens state institutions, reinforces the rule of law and ensures that all citizens are treated equally under the Constitution.
The march is being convened by a coalition of civic figures, including Emmanuel Mawanye Kotin, Solomon Owusu, Ebo Buckman and Andrew Appiah-Danquah.
Participants are expected to gather at the Obra Spot at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra at 7:30 a.m. Organisers have requested that attendees wear white as a symbol of peace, constitutional order and collective civic responsibility.
Details about the approved route and the intended destination for the presentation of the group’s petition are expected to be communicated ahead of the demonstration.
Democracy in Progress has invited citizens who support institutional accountability and the consistent application of the law to participate peacefully in the march.
