Deputy Education Minister Urges Directors to Turn Policy Into Classroom Results

Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Education has called on Directors of Education to strengthen local leadership and ensure that national policies translate into improvements in teaching and learning.

Addressing the 33rd Conference of Directors of Education (CODE) in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the Deputy Minister said achieving the country’s education objectives depends heavily on effective implementation at district and school levels.

The directors were reminded of their responsibility to connect policy decisions with classroom practice across Ghana’s 16 regions. The ministry stressed that proactive district-level management is essential to turning national priorities into meaningful outcomes for learners.

The conference also highlighted concerns about staffing and access to learning materials.

CODE National President, Mr Mumuni, drew attention to the unequal distribution of teachers between rural and urban communities. He urged authorities to address the imbalance to give pupils more equitable access to quality education, regardless of where they attend school.

The association commended the government for progress in expanding educational infrastructure but called for an increased supply of textbooks to support classroom instruction.

The discussions underscored the need to match infrastructure investment with adequate staffing, learning resources and effective local leadership to improve education delivery nationwide.
