The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has introduced six Ghanaian languages on its computer-based driving theory test platform to help applicants who struggle to read or write in English.

The DVLA Chief Executive Officer, Julius Neequaye Kotey, announced the initiative at the Government Accountability Series at the Jubilee House on Monday, October 12, 2026.

He said the move was aimed at making the driver licensing process more accessible and ensuring that applicants understand road safety rules and traffic regulations.

“I am happy to report that the DVLA has introduced six local languages into its Computer-Based Test (CBT) platform to assist applicants who cannot read or write in English,” he said.

The languages available on the platform are Twi, Ga, Ewe, Dagbani, Nzema and Hausa. Applicants can use the translation software to take the mandatory driving theory test in their preferred language.

Mr Kotey explained that the initiative would reduce language barriers and enable applicants to demonstrate their understanding of road signs, traffic regulations and safe driving practices.

He added that the Authority was working to introduce more local languages to extend the service to prospective drivers across the country.

Meanwhile, the DVLA has introduced SMS notifications to remind drivers when their licences are due for renewal.

Under the system, licence holders receive an initial text message one month before their licences expire and another reminder two weeks before the deadline, provided their registered mobile numbers remain unchanged.

Mr Kotey said the Authority was also developing a similar notification system to remind vehicle owners when their roadworthiness certificates were due for renewal.

He further disclosed that the DVLA was introducing an electronic library and a queue management system to improve service delivery and enhance the customer experience at its offices.
