The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a meter audit across all its operational areas to detect electricity theft, reduce commercial losses and improve billing accuracy.
The exercise will cover prepaid and postpaid meters, Special Load Tariff installations and associated wiring. Field teams will inspect the systems to establish whether electricity consumption is being correctly recorded.
ECG said its public announcement serves as notice of the exercise, with no separate appointment letters or individual advance notifications planned.
Customers, landlords and property managers have been urged to provide reasonable access to authorised personnel after verifying their identities.
All participating employees and authorised agents will carry official ECG identification cards. Customers can confirm a worker’s identity by dialing *226#, selecting Option 5 — “Verify Staff”, and entering the officer’s six-digit verification code.
The service displays the worker’s name, region and district, allowing customers to check the information before granting access. Assistance is also available through ECG’s customer service line, 0302 611 611.
A commencement date had not been announced at the time of the notice.
