Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, Deputy Communications Minister Involved in Road Accident

Iddrisu and Sukparu

Ghana’s Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, and the Deputy Minister for Communications, Mohammed Adams Sukparu, were involved in a road accident on Thursday while traveling on the Bolgatanga–Tumu road in the Upper West Region.

Accident and Initial Response

According to reports, the accident occurred around 11:00 a.m. between Banu and Kunchokor on the Tumu–Navrongo Highway. Preliminary information suggests that a motorist crossed the ministers’ convoy, forcing the driver to take evasive action. Thick dust in the area reportedly reduced visibility, causing the vehicle to lose control.

Following the incident, the ministers and other occupants of the convoy were rushed to the Tumu Government Hospital for immediate medical attention. Health officials confirmed that they were in stable condition after initial treatment.

Airlifted for Further Medical Care

For precautionary reasons and further evaluation, the ministers and other affected individuals were later airlifted from Tumu to Wa. From there, they were transported to Accra to receive specialized medical care.

Government officials confirmed that both ministers and their team members remained stable throughout the transfer, with no life-threatening injuries reported.

Purpose of the Trip

At the time of the accident, the delegation was en route to attend the 40th anniversary celebrations of Tumu College of Education and Jahan College of Education, two key teacher-training institutions in the region.

Further updates are expected as medical assessments continue, but authorities have assured the public that the condition of all those involved remains stable.
