Egypt has strongly condemned a wave of missile and drone attacks launched by Iran-backed Houthi rebels against Saudi Arabia, describing the strikes as a dangerous escalation and a threat to regional stability.
The attacks reportedly targeted several cities, energy installations and oil facilities in southern Saudi Arabia. More than 70 people were said to have been injured, while some petroleum infrastructure sustained damage.
The escalation has renewed concerns about the security of the Red Sea region and the potential impact of continued hostilities on global energy supplies.
In its response, the Egyptian government denounced the attacks as a violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Cairo stressed that any threat to the Kingdom’s security also affects Egypt and the wider Arab world.
Egypt, widely regarded as having one of Africa’s strongest military forces, reaffirmed its full solidarity with the Saudi government and people. It also expressed support for measures taken by Riyadh to protect its territory, critical infrastructure and citizens.
The Egyptian government further reiterated its longstanding position that Saudi Arabia’s security forms an integral part of Egyptian and Arab national security.
Cairo’s statement reflects the close defence and diplomatic relationship between the two countries as regional governments seek to prevent further escalation and safeguard important energy and maritime routes.
