The Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced a 32-year-old electrician, Mohammed Ibrahim, also known as Ahmed, to four years in prison for breaking into a licensed gold buyer’s shop and stealing gold concentrate and cash.
Ibrahim was sentenced on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful entry, causing unlawful damage and stealing.
The prosecution told the court that Ibrahim and an accomplice broke into the gold-buying shop at Wassa Akropong in the Western Region at about midnight on May 20, 2026.
The two men reportedly stole gold concentrate valued at GH¢100,000 and GH¢20,000 in cash before leaving the premises.
Ibrahim admitted to the offences but pleaded not guilty to a separate charge of possessing an instrument intended or adapted for unlawful entry.
The court subsequently imposed a four-year custodial sentence on him for the offences to which he pleaded guilty.
Police are searching for his alleged accomplice, identified as Karikari, also known as KK, who remains at large.
The Ghana Police Service has appealed to members of the public with information about Karikari’s whereabouts to assist investigators with his arrest.
