EOCO Returns Seized Cash and Electronic Devices to Former NAFCO Boss

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has returned cash and electronic devices seized from Hanan Abdul-Wahab, the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), following demands by his legal team.

According to Asaase Radio, the items include £6,700, GH¢2,750, two laptop computers and at least six mobile phones.

The belongings were taken during investigations in 2025 and a subsequent arrest on July 4, 2026. During the latter incident, Abdul-Wahab was detained at Accra International Airport while preparing to travel to the United Kingdom for medical care. Additional cash, a laptop and two phones were reportedly seized at the time.

Abdul-Wahab, his wife, Hajia Faiza Wuni, and their driver face financial crime charges. The return of the property is separate from the determination of those charges.

His defence counsel, Godfred Dame, had pressed for the release of the devices, arguing that they contained material needed to prepare his client’s defence.

At a High Court hearing on September 29, 2026, Dame maintained that the trial could not proceed without access to the seized phones because they held evidence relevant to the defence.

A formal application seeking the release of the belongings followed, leading to EOCO’s return of the cash and electronic devices.
