The Member of Parliament for Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira, Kofi Arko Nokoe, has handed over 600 mono desks to the Municipal Education Directorate to help address furniture shortages in schools across the municipality.
The presentation, held on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, will benefit 54 schools, where inadequate classroom furniture has forced some pupils to sit on the floor during lessons.
The desks are intended to improve classroom conditions and provide pupils with suitable seating and writing space.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mr. Nokoe described the shortage of school furniture as a national challenge that requires sustained attention.
He also raised concerns about deforestation, including tree cutting for charcoal production, which he linked to difficulties in meeting demand for wooden classroom furniture.
The Municipal Education Directorate will oversee the distribution of the desks to the beneficiary schools.
The intervention adds to efforts across Ghana to address classroom furniture deficits and reduce the number of children studying on floors. Other reported distributions include 887 pieces of furniture in the Mion District and 1,400 pieces handed over by the Wa Metropolitan Assembly.
