The Nsuta Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region has sentenced a former convict, Douglas Nyarnor, to five years in prison for stealing GH¢195 from a commercial tricycle operator.
Nyarnor, a driver and resident of Jeduako near Nsuta, was convicted and sentenced on Thursday, October 29, 2026. The case was heard by Judge Simon Nketiah Gagah.
Theft Near Taxi Terminal
The incident occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, when the victim, Obed Gyamfi, parked his pragya near a taxi terminal and stepped away to speak with a shop owner.
While Gyamfi was away from the vehicle, Nyarnor, who had been seen loitering nearby, opened an unlocked cash box inside the tricycle and took GH¢195. The money was the proceeds from Gyamfi’s sales for the day.
Nyarnor walked away after taking the cash. He was later brought before the Nsuta Circuit Court, where he was convicted and sentenced.
Public Discussion
The five-year sentence has sparked discussion on Ghanaian social media, with some people questioning the length of the prison term in relation to the amount stolen.
The case has also drawn attention to how the criminal justice system treats repeat offenders. Nyarnor had a previous criminal record, although no details were provided about his earlier conviction or whether it influenced the sentence.
