Federated Commodities PLC, a licensed cocoa-buying company, has commenced the construction of two modern Junior High School classroom blocks in Kojo Bortey and Appiahkrom in the Amenfi West Constituency of the Western Region.
The projects are intended to address a long-standing shortage of educational infrastructure in the two cocoa-growing communities.
Although Kojo Bortey and Appiahkrom have primary schools, neither community has a Junior High School facility. Pupils who complete primary education are therefore compelled to walk long distances to neighbouring towns to continue their schooling.
Each community will receive a furnished JHS classroom block equipped with desks and teaching stations. The facilities will also include staff common rooms to provide teachers with dedicated administrative and lesson-preparation spaces.
Separate modern washrooms will be constructed for teachers and pupils, while mechanized boreholes will provide reliable access to potable water on the school grounds.
The sod-cutting ceremonies for the two projects were held on September 2, 2026. Physical construction is expected to begin in October 2026 and be completed by March 2027.
Dell Logistics has been contracted to undertake the construction work at both locations.
Officials of Federated Commodities said the initiative formed part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme, which supports education and community development in Ghana’s cocoa-producing areas.
The company has previously delivered several educational projects in farming communities. At Domeabra, FEDCO constructed a six-unit classroom block with an information and communications technology laboratory, staff room, astroturf pitch and mechanized water system.
It also provided a furnished kindergarten complex and ICT laboratory at Kwamang.
When completed, the new classroom blocks are expected to serve pupils from Kojo Bortey, Appiahkrom and surrounding farming communities within the Amenfi West area.
The projects are also expected to reduce the distances children travel to attend Junior High School, improve access to basic education and support school attendance and retention in the beneficiary communities.
