Fire Damages Quality Foam Factory at Sokoban-Ampayoo

A fire has destroyed mattresses and extensively damaged production equipment at the Quality Foam showroom and factory at Sokoban-Ampayoo in the Ashanti Region.

The blaze swept through a substantial section of the facility near Kumasi Hospital, prompting residents to intervene before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived.

Company Director Dr. Med. Samuel Asante confirmed that no casualties were recorded. He explained that the factory had closed for the day, with only security personnel on duty when the fire broke out.

Residents helped fight the flames and moved to protect vehicles parked at a commercial garage adjoining the premises. Their initial efforts brought the fire under control before firefighters arrived and fully contained it.

Although the main showroom building remained largely intact, several mattresses were destroyed, while machinery within the production area sustained significant damage. The showroom was forcibly opened during efforts to retrieve finished products.

Management intends to engage technical experts to assess the condition of the affected equipment and determine the full extent of the financial and material losses.

The cause of the fire has yet to be established.
