A major fire engulfed a warehouse at Anyinam in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region on Friday, August 14, 2026.
The warehouse, located near Pat-Doramo International School, was consumed by flames during the afternoon, sending thick clouds of smoke into the sky.
The smoke could be seen from several surrounding communities, causing panic among residents and students at the nearby school.
Multiple teams from the Ghana National Fire Service were dispatched to the scene as the blaze spread rapidly through the facility.
Firefighters responded from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Fire Station, the GNFS Ashanti Regional Headquarters and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Fire Station.
The emergency crews concentrated on preventing the flames from spreading to neighboring properties, particularly Pat-Doramo International School.
District Road Improvement Program water tankers supported the operation by supplying additional water to firefighters. The assistance helped crews contain the blaze and protect nearby buildings.
The full value of goods and property destroyed in the fire has not yet been established. No cause had been officially confirmed at the time of reporting.
Officers from the Ghana National Fire Service have opened an investigation to determine how the fire started and assess the total extent of the damage.
The incident has renewed calls for warehouse operators and commercial property owners to comply strictly with fire-safety regulations.
The GNFS urged businesses to install functioning fire extinguishers and detection systems, maintain accessible emergency exits and conduct regular inspections of electrical installations. Authorities also advised operators to avoid unsafe storage practices that could increase the risk of fire or accelerate its spread.
