Five adults from the same family have died following a shooting at a home in Douglas, Georgia, late Friday night, in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide.
Officers responded to the residence in the Touchton Woods neighbourhood at approximately 11:09 p.m. on October 9, 2026, after one of the victims called emergency services to report an active shooter inside the home.
Four adults were found dead at the scene. A fifth person was taken to Coffee Regional Medical Center with gunshot wounds but later died.
Investigators said all five were immediate family members who lived together. Authorities have not released their names or ages as they work to notify relatives.
Douglas Police Chief Brannen Pruette and Coffee County Sheriff Fred Cole addressed the incident at a Saturday press conference, assuring residents that there was no ongoing threat to the public.
Police also disclosed that a woman at the home had contacted authorities hours earlier to complain about her husband smoking indoors. Investigators have not established a public connection between that complaint and the subsequent shooting.
Mayor Tony Paulk said the deaths had deeply affected the community of approximately 12,000 residents.
The bodies are being taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for autopsies as investigators work to establish the circumstances and sequence of events surrounding the shooting.
