Foreign Affairs Ministry Acquires 20 Pickups to Improve Passport Services

Ghana Post

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has purchased 20 new pickup vehicles to improve staff mobility and support mobile passport application services across Ghana.

Sector Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the acquisition during his first working visit to the Ashanti Regional Passport Application Centre in Kumasi on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

He said each of the country’s 16 regions would receive one vehicle, with passport operations in Greater Accra also benefiting from the fleet.

According to the minister, the Kumasi center currently depends on a single vehicle, limiting staff movement and its ability to respond to requests for mobile services. The additional pickup is expected to ease that pressure and support outreach activities.

Ablakwa also announced plans to include the center’s renovation in the ministry’s 2027 budget after inspecting its facilities, furniture and equipment.

He said improvements to the Accra Passport Application Centre had already been completed under the 2026 budget, with a similar intervention planned for Kumasi.

The minister assured personnel that the ministry would continue addressing transport and infrastructure challenges to improve working conditions and passport service delivery.
