Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has praised Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi following his impressive unofficial debut for the Premier League club.
The 20-year-old made his first appearance for the Sky Blues in a preseason friendly against AS Monaco on August 14, 2026. He marked the occasion with an assist as Coventry secured a convincing 2–0 victory.
Yirenkyi’s energetic display offered supporters an early glimpse of the qualities that persuaded Coventry to make a substantial investment in the Ghana international.
Speaking after the match, Lampard described the midfielder as a “good, talented player” and expressed confidence that he would become a “big addition to the club.”

Coventry signed Yirenkyi from Danish Superliga side FC Nordsjælland earlier in August for a reported £26 million. The Sky Blues faced strong competition from several leading European clubs for the midfielder’s signature. Lampard said the club successfully convinced Yirenkyi that Coventry offered the right project and environment for the next stage of his development.
