The Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Samuel Bryan Buabeng, seeking GH¢10 million in general damages over Facebook publications she says falsely linked her to narcotics trafficking and abuse of office.
The suit, filed at the Accra High Court, centers on a September 22, 2026, post on Buabeng’s public Facebook page. Opare is also seeking aggravated and exemplary damages.
According to her lawyers, the publication displayed her name and photograph alongside those of GACL employee Frank Danquah and described him as her “favorite member of staff.”
Her legal team argues that the presentation implied she had an improper relationship with Danquah and had participated in or benefited from alleged narcotics activity. Opare denies those claims.
The lawyers maintain that Danquah, whose employment with GACL began on September 1, 2004, has no personal connection with Opare beyond their official roles. They also reject the suggestion that he received preferential treatment from her.
Her legal team has issued a cease-and-desist notice demanding the removal of the disputed material, a retraction, an apology and a written undertaking against repeating the allegations.
In the lawsuit, Opare is asking the court to declare the September 22 publication false and defamatory and order Buabeng to delete it. The requested removal order would also cover copies, shares and reproductions on accounts, pages or websites under his control.
She further seeks an unconditional retraction and an unreserved public apology on the same Facebook page, displayed with prominence equivalent to the original publication and pinned for 30 consecutive days.
Opare has additionally requested a perpetual injunction preventing Buabeng from republishing the disputed statements or similar defamatory material.
The claims and requested remedies remain subject to the High Court’s determination.
